The Pursuit of Compassion

Today's REACH lesson was about compassion.  "Compassion is sharing others' sorrows as well as joys.  The pursuit of compassion will make you happier than the pursuit of happiness will.  Compassion is your ability to feel others' feelings with a desire and effort to help." - Dr. Sood, The Mayo Clinic Handbook for Happiness.  Compassion does not always involve action to solve someone else's problems, but the understanding that everyone has struggles.  It also involves kindness and patience.  Compassion can be shown in so many other ways.  We came up with the phrase, "I understand..." as a way to show one's feelings of compassion.  Watch this video to see how these shoppers show their compassion for a fellow human being with a daily struggle.
